I have been a fan of Disney movies for as long as I can remember! And because both my hubby and I love our Disney, our kids have become Disney movie lovers too. One of my favorite movies growing up was The Jungle Book. My brother and I would watch it and then sing the songs together. I don’t know if it’s because the songs are so catchy or what, but The Jungle Book has some of the best songs! (In my opinion!) I just love when the vultures sing, “That’s What Friends Are For”. It’s the best!
So you can imagine how excited I was when #CollectiveBias asked me to head on over to Walmart to buy the movie and have a movie night with my family. Disney’s The Jungle Book became available for purchase on Feb. 11th. If you buy the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack at Walmart, you can also get a free lunch box!
My kids probably had seen The Jungle Book before, but it had been awhile. And as soon as it was in the cart, my daughter was asking when she could watch the “jungle movie”! To prepare for our movie watching, we talked about the animals we would find in the jungle and how we could be safe from them. We decided we needed to build a fort to keep all the wild animals out. (What kid doesn’t love a fort, right?!?!) My son even decided to make a sign for the door. I’m not sure you can tell, but it shows that boys and girls are allowed in the fort, but on the left is a big green x over the animal. Not quite sure what kind of animal it was, but he knows what it means.
To go along with our movie watching night, I also purchased a bunch of produce to make up a #JungleFresh meal that would be perfect to eat while watching the wild animals.
I was inspired by the Bengal BBQ restaurant in Disneyland. They have some yummy BBQ and it’s all served on a stick. Making eating even more fun! I wanted to keep it healthy so the only meat I decided to use was chicken. But a bunch of grilled vegetables sounded just as delicious.
The first thing I did was put together my marinade. I used the same marinade for both the chicken and the vegetables.

I put my chicken tenders (about 1.5 pounds) into a zippered plastic bag and poured half the marinade over the chicken. I put my cut up vegetables (mushrooms, onion, red bell pepper, yellow squash, zucchini) into another zippered bag and poured the remaining marinade over them. I set both bags in the fridge for about 30 minutes. While they were in the fridge, I soaked my skewers in water. Then I put all my veggies and chicken on the skewers and then onto the grill. The grill was set to high and I cooked the veggies for about 10 minutes and the chicken for about 8 minutes, flipping them about half way. I also learned that closing the lid catches things on fire. So just be cautious when grilling.
My hubby and I decided to take everything off the skewers and chop them up. We wrapped them up in a lettuce cup and they were so good! They were tender and juicy and didn’t need any additional sauce, which kept them pretty healthy.
My son however, he loved eating right off the stick!
What would family movie night be with out dessert. Using more fresh ingredients, I whipped up some yummy popsicles for our dessert.

The kids loved eating their dessert in the fort while watching the movie. That is, until baby sis wanted in on all the fun!
I’m thinking this is the wild animal that Mr. C had in mind when making his sign for the fort! Ha Ha!
We had a great time watching the movie together, and I have loved hearing my daughter sing “The Bare Necessities” all week long.
