Coated in caramel, chocolate and coconut, these samoa pretzels have all the classic flavors of your favorite cookie.
I am a huge fan of the Samoa cookies we can buy every year from the Girl Scouts. One year every time I passed them at the grocery store they were always out so I had to take it to facebook and find me some samoa cookies from somewhere. I must have been pregnant that year. Anyway, I just love the caramel, coconut and chocolate combo.
I was looking through my pantry one day and saw I had these pretzel rods, dipping chocolate and a box of Peter’s caramel I thought if only I had some coconut, I could make me some samoa pretzels. And so I went out and bought some coconut so I could make some.
I love caramel pretzels in general and really you can top them with anything and they would taste good (in my opinion). But sometimes it’s really a big mess to melt the caramel and dip the pretzels in it. Well last year my friend and I went to a candy making class taught by Roni of Roni’s Sugar Creations and learned this awesome way of covering your pretzels in caramel with no mess. It is genius. Of course you have to melt the chocolate and dip the caramel wrapped pretzels, but it’s not as sticky as having to melt caramel.
You can see the process used to create these samoa pretzels in the video below. I know it’s not in the correct order, but you will be able to see the process.
- Pretzel Rods
- Chocolate melting candy
- Peter's Caramel
- Toasted coconut
- Wrap the pretzel rods with caramel.
- Melt chocolate according to package instructions.
- Dip caramel wrapped pretzels in chocolate and gently shake off any excess.
- Place on parchment paper.
- Sprinkle tops with toasted coconut.
- Drizzle more chocolate on the tops of the pretzels.
I used toasted coconut on the top of my pretzels. It’s really quick to make and I think it brings out the flavor and sweetness of the coconut. You can see the tutorial if you’re not sure how to make toasted coconut.
