I wanted to make something that would be easy and fun for Mr. C. I was inspired by this Happy day Garland that I found on Dana-made-it. She gives a great tutorial and made it seem really easy.
As it turns out, it was really easy! I got some felt scraps from my mother in law, sat down while little miss was taking a nap one afternoon and cut out all my shapes. Although in the tutorial they did stars and circles, I decided to do more shapes. Mr. C is learning colors and shapes so I thought it would be fun for him to point out all the different shapes. As I cut (free hand, hence the wacky stars), he piled all the similar shapes together.
Then I decided how I wanted to put them all together, in some sort of pattern (not really). As I would sew, Mr. C would hold the end as it got longer and longer. When we were all done I decided to hang it up in his room and he loves it! He told me “I can’t reach it”. All part of the plan.
I think this will be a fun garland to put up at the beginning of every school year to get the kids excited.
