Mermaid Paper Dolls
To get started, upload the mermaid image into Cricut Design Space. If you are not familiar with how to do that, see this video, how to upload an SVG into Cricut Design Space. Once the design is uploaded and inserted onto the canvas, you’ll see the different layers of the file in the layers panel. Make sure all the layers are selected and resize the image to the size you want to make your paper dolls. I made these about 10 inches tall.
I wanted to have a variety of colors for the girls to choose from. So I changed all the pieces of the tail and the shirt to the same color so they would all cut out of the same color of card stock. Hit make it in Design space and you should see 3 different mats. One with the head/shoulders, one with the hair and one with the tail pieces and shirt. Select the mat showing the tail and shirt pieces and click continue.
Place your card stock on the cutting mat and load it into the machine. Select card stock as your cutting material and hit the go button to start cutting. Unload the mat once it’s done cutting, remove the pieces and add your next color of card stock to your mat and load it into the machine. In Design Space, select the mat that you just cut, the one with the tail and shirt pieces and cut it again. Do it a few times until you have all the colors cut you want. Move onto the hair pieces, cutting as many colors and sets you want for your Mermaid Paper Dolls. Cut the head/shoulder pieces last.
Just make sure you have the correct mat selected in design space before you hit the green go button to start cutting.
Now comes the fun part! To make your paper doll mermaids you start with the hair and the head. Using a glue stick or adhesive, attach the head to the bigger hair piece. Then top with the smaller hair piece. Make sure the tops of the hair pieces line up. Then add the shirt and tail pieces. It’s fun to mix and match the tail pieces to create a fun look for your mermaid.
Place the tail pieces behind the shirt and top both the tail and the shirt with the small top of the tail.
My girls have had so much fun putting these together. They have changed out the tails and mixed up the colors several times. Luckily we used a tape runner so the pieces were easy to remove and put back together. We have even drawn some faces on our mermaids.
Mermaid Paper Dolls is just one of the many projects you can make using this newest Fresh Cut SVG Bundle. What mermaid goodness will you be creating with these cut files?
Happy Crafting!
