My girls and I just got back from a super fun trip to Disneyland.  It was a girls only trip and we enjoyed everything the holidays at Disneyland has to offer.  The attention to detail is just so impressive in Disney parks.

One of the afternoons we took the opportunity to visit Santa in California Adventure.  As we stood in line to see Santa, I noticed all the beautiful decorations that Santa’s village had.  But the one that jumped out at me, were these rustic Mickey Mouse ornaments.  As soon as I saw them, I knew I needed to create them when I got home.

Not only are these DIY Mickey Mouse Ornaments adorable, they were also really easy to make. To make these you will need:

Various sizes of wood slices

Acrylic Paint – Black, Red, Yellow

Paint burshes

hot glue and glue gun

ribbon

First thing to do is decide which wood slices you want to use as the base and the ears.  I matched up the smaller pieces so the ears would be similar in size.

Paint all the ear pieces with the black paint.  Paint the tops of the base pieces with black paint.  Place a piece of tape just above the middle of the base wood slice, covering just a little bit of the already painted black area.  Use the piece of tape to create a clean line between the black and red sections.  Paint the bottom section red.  It took a couple coats of red paint to get the coverage I wanted.  Remove the tape right after your final coat. Once the paint is dry, use yellow paint to create 2 buttons.

Use hot glue to attach the ears to the base piece.  Cut a length of ribbon to use as a hook to hang the ornaments from your tree.  Attach ribbon to the back of the ornament with hot glue.

Now the ornaments are ready to hang on my tree.  Next time, I think I will make the ribbon a bit shorter.

Didn’t they turn out so cute?!?!  When my daughters got home from school and saw the DIY Mickey Mouse Ornament, they were so excited!  They love them.

These Mickey Christmas ornaments would be fun to make with the kids.  They look pretty darn cute on a tree, but would look cute tied to a package gifted to your favorite Disney fan too.

I love bringing a little Disney magic to our home.

Happy Crafting!
