I love seeing my girls in matching shirts. It makes me so happy. And usually they go along with it. Sisterly relationships can be so amazing, and I want my girls to grow up to be the best of friends. I made these DIY Best Friends Shirts to really hit the point home that sisters make the best friends.
To make these DIY Best Friends Shirts you will need:
Cricut Maker or Explore Air 2
Best Friends Heart SVG Cut File
Plain Shirts (I found these at Walmart)
Valentine’s Cut Files
To get started, download the Best Friends heart cut file. It is part of the Valentine’s Cut File bundle found in my shop. There are so many cute designs, perfect for crafting with love. These files would be so cute on any Valentine’s Day crafting.
Upload the SVG into Cricut Design Space. Size the design to fit your t-shirts. For my girls I sized the design to be about 7 inches tall. I didn’t want it too big for their little shirts. Click make it and send the design to the cut mat screen in Design Space. The design will show on the cutting mat, but we need to mirror the image if we are going to be cutting the design out of iron on (or heat transfer) vinyl. In the left hand column there is a little button to turn on the mirror image. The design on the mat will then show up as a mirrored image. Click continue and connect to your cutting machine.
When cutting iron on vinyl, you will always cut from the backside of the vinyl. The front will be covered with a plastic carrier sheet. This is helpful when weeding your design (removing unwanted vinyl) and ironing the project to your shirts. I used glitter iron on for my project. You can see the shiny carrier sheet on top of the glittery surface of the vinyl. Be sure to lay the vinyl shiny side or face down onto the cutting mat before loading it into the machine.
DIY Best Friends Shirts
For these next steps we will be working from the backside of the vinyl. Load the mat into the cutting machine and choose iron on vinyl as the cutting material in Cricut Design Space. Click the blinking GO button on the machine when it is ready to cut. Once the design has been cut, unload the mat from the machine. Use the weeding tool to remove the unwanted vinyl from the design. The plastic carrier sheet should remain intact.
Cut the hearts apart so they can be applied to the shirts. The plastic carrier sheet helps to keep the design in place on the t-shirt. Heat the EasyPress 2 to 330 degrees for 30 seconds. Lay your shirt down on the EasyPress mat before pressing. Once the EasyPress reaches the temperature, place the easy press on the design and press the green go button to start the countdown.
Flip the shirt over and press it from the backside for 15 more seconds. Glitter iron on is a hot peel, which means you can remove the plastic carrier sheet while it is still warm. Always remember to make sure your iron on vinyl is covered with a plastic carrier sheet or parchment paper or something, to protect the plate of the EasyPress and not ruin it or the vinyl.
These shirts were so easy to make and look so cute on my girls. This design would also be cute as necklaces or charms for my daughters to give to their friends. There are just so many possibilities with the designs in this Valentine’s Day cut file bundle.
And I loved how big sister took care of little sister during these pictures. Little sister was having a rough day. They really are best friends!
