My kids loved making this recycled DIY bird feeder.  It’s a quick, easy project the whole family can make together.

It seems like a long time since I’ve crafted with my kids.  With homework, karate, dance, baseball, dinner, you know, all those after school activities, it’s hard to find time to get creative with the kiddos.

So when I was challenged as part of the Chick-fil-A Mom’s Panel to recycle the chicken tortilla soup bowls into something fun, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to craft with my kids.  My husband has been building a tree house for the kids and my son is pretty much obsessed with spending any spare second he has in the tree house.  I thought it would be fun to recycle our containers into a DIY bird feeder.  And luckily, my son thought it was a great idea too!

DIY Bird Feeder

I cleaned out the Chick-fil-A containers and dried them.  I bought some wild bird feed at the store and found some twine in my craft stash.  We used a hole punch to make holes in each corner of the container.

We thread the twine through the holes and brought the twine together and tied it in a looped knot so that we could hang it on the branches of the tree house.  Then we filled them with bird seed.

My son found the perfect branch to hang the DIY bird feeder in the tree house.  I think he has checked everyday to see if the bird seed is gone.  It’s still there but we have hope the birds will find it. 🙂

Since the bird feeder, my son has made a water “fountain” and bird house for the birds out of recycled material.

It sure was fun to craft with the kids again.  It was fun to see how excited they got about making this easy recycled DIY bird feeder.

What’s one of your favorite crafts to do with the kids?

Happy Crafting!
