It’s about time I posted a craft project!
Well today I have a fun spring time kid craft using Apple Barrel paint and Mod Podge Washout for kids.
These spring time bird houses were so fun to make.
The kids had a great time with all the painting and I realized that I need to practice my own painting skills! 🙂
I was lucky enough to receive some fun products from Plaid Crafts to try out with the kiddos. The kids were so excited to get painting when they saw all these bright fun colors, they tried opening up every bottle of paint. I told them we had to wait until we had something to use our paint on.
While we were at the craft store we spotted these fun bird houses and I let the kids pick out which one they would want to paint with our new supplies.
I let them each pick out the color they wanted to use for their bird house and just let them have at it.
Apple Barrel paints are so versatile and kid friendly (and come in a wide range of colors), that I wasn’t too worried if they got a little carried away. I knew with a little soap and water, I would be able to wash it right away. But you have to catch it while it is still wet. But it washed right off little misses hands when she was all done.
Once we had each painted our houses we had to wait for them to dry.
This was the hardest part for my littles.
Once they were dry, I did two different things.
I took my bird house and laid the roof down on a piece of scrapbook paper, traced it and then cut it out. For the kids, I took scrapbook paper and cut them into squares/rectangles.
We brushed the Mod Podge Washout onto our roofs and then covered them with the scrapbook paper. I cut out some additional flowers and pasted them onto my house with the Mod Podge Washout. The kids painted on their Mod Podge Washout and layered on their “shingles”.
Once the roof was covered with scrapbook paper, we covered the entire roof (in my case the entire house) with Mod Podge Washout. It gives a nice glossy finish like Mod Podge Gloss. And again, I wasn’t too worried about where it landed. It washes out of clothing and furniture with soap and water. Even when it has already dried. It will wash out of clothing in the washing machine with no pre soaking required. It’s a perfect craft medium for moms and teachers who like to craft with kids.
Here are the kids houses all finished and dry.
I always think the kids finished projects are cuter then mine!
What is a bird house without a tree?
The kids can’t wait to see if any birdies use these houses. We may have to bribe them with some bird seed!
The 3 of us had such a fun time crafting together and I was not on “high alert” that they were going to get paint everywhere because I knew these products were super kid friendly!
