Button Magnets

I’ve had this idea rolling around in my head for awhile and finally set aside the time to put it together.  I don’t know why it took so long, everything I needed to make them, I already had on hand!
Today I’m going to share with you how I made these big button magnets!
With it beginning to be canning season, I have a lot of canning jar lids that I can no longer use because they can only be used once if you’re canning for shelf storage.  I always think I need to save them and use them for something else.  And finally I did!
I gathered all my supplies:
canning jar lids
magnets
& I used E6000 for my adhesive
I first glued the magnets onto the back of the lids
That way when I spray painted them, they would be up off the ground a little
Then I spray painted them with some white spray paint that I already had
Of course you could use any color you have.
I sprayed 2 coats in order to get good coverage and not have the words show through.

Once the paint was dry,  I used the end of a paint brush and made 4 dots to look like the 4 holes on a button.

After I let it dry for a bit, I used another color of paint and painted on the thread.

I think the ridge around the outside of the lid really makes these look like buttons!
You can keep these for yourself or give them as a gift.
Get the kids involved and let them paint their own designs, they don’t all have to be buttons!
