Ok. You can admit it. You love those sappy romantic Christmas movies. It’s just us. You can tell me. 🙂
But guess what. You are not alone! So many people love a good Christmas movie. Sappy and romantic or otherwise. Which is why this idea for a girl’s night was so fun!
We had a basic shirt design idea, but the ladies could customize the shirt to fit their style and taste. It’s one of the many reasons I love iron on vinyl. The possibilities of customization are endless.
My friend asked me to help her make these shirts for her daughters for the holiday season. Once we made them, they were so cute I thought that everyone needed one and it would be a good excuse for my friends and I to get together.

To get ready for the party, I cut out all the pieces of the design with my Cricut Explore Air 2. I had both black and white iron-on vinyl options for the writing. And glitter and regular iron-on for the trees. I laid them out on the counter next to a jar of weeding tools.
I created a fun snack board for my hot chocolate. Using various shapes and flavors of marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate and caramel pieces to add to the hot cocoa. Plus some fun and delicious cookies. It turned out so cute.
The ladies each brought an appetizer or snack to share. There was plenty of food for everyone and I love a good variety of snacks.
The ladies could choose the pieces of vinyl they wanted to add to their shirt and sat around the table and weeded the vinyl. This was a fun time to just sit and visit and snack. All the best parts of a girl’s night!
I provided the iron-0n vinyl and the tools for making shirts, but everyone brought their own shirt. That way they could choose the style, fit, length, etc. that they like best. We used the largest EasyPress 2 to make our shirts. Which made it go pretty quick.
How To Make A DIY Christmas Shirt
Here is a quick breakdown of how we made these shirts. Once all the pieces are cut out (remember to mirror image the designs to cut, you can see how to make a custom t-shirt if you need a refresher), remove (or weed) the unwanted vinyl, leaving just the design. I wanted to do this in one press, so I cut the plastic cover sheet as close to the vinyl as possible so I could piece it together like a puzzle on the shirt. And the plastic cover sheet wouldn’t be under any of the vinyl pieces so I could get a good press.
Using the Cricut Heat Guide, set the EasyPress to the correct temp for the material you’re working with. Lay the shirt over the EasyPress Mat and press for the time called for in the Heat Guide.
Once pressed, remove the plastic cover sheet. If the iron-on vinyl tries to come off with the cover sheet, lay it back down and press again.
Now you can watch all those Christmas movies in comfort! What I loved about this is that the ladies really did customize these. Some only wanted to add the vintage truck and tree to a shirt. Which is totally cute by the way. Some took out the Hallmark part because they don’t watch those movies.
But they all turned out super cute and the ladies had a super fun time together. I did change up the design just a little from the one you see here, but if you are looking for a Christmas movie watching shirt cut file, click on the download below and you can make it work for you.
