We just love Marvel movies at our house. My husband and I were able to see an early showing of the new Thor Ragnarok movie, and it inspired me to create this fun DIY Thor shirt for my super hero loving son.
Although my son loves Marvel movies, we did not take him with us to see the movie. We weren’t sure if it would be appropriate for a 9 year old so we wanted to see it first. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It was my favorite Thor movie yet! The humor was so great and is remenisent of the humor you find in Gaurdians of the Galaxy. I loved the story and there was an unexpected twist that I thought was really interesting. (no spoilers)
There is a lot of violence, battles and fighting. That Hela is one mean chick. Not a lot of blood and guts which I appreciated. But, I was glad we decided not to bring my son, it was too much for my 9 year old.
But that didn’t stop me from making him a Thor inspired shirt. He’s already worn it to school and told me the kids thought it was cool.
Once I had the hammer drawn, I had a hard time deciding what to write in the middle. So I actually came up with 2 designs. Drop the hammer is the one I put on my son’s shirt because he liked that one better. But I also have one with the word strong in the middle of the hammer too. You can download both SVG files and upload them straight into your cutting machine and cut your design out of heat transfer vinyl to make your own shirt. Just click on the link below and unzip the file and you’ll be ready to go.
I used my Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut the heat transfer vinyl. If you use a Cricut and you’ve never uploaded an SVG file to design space, check out this video.
Make sure you mirror image your design before you cut it, so when you iron it on, it’ll come out the right way. I show you how to make a custom t-shirt in case you need a refresher.
Once I weeded the image, I placed my design onto my shirt and used the Cricut Easy Press to iron it onto the shirt. It made this DIY Thor shirt so easy to make. You can always use an iron too.
So which of you Marvel fans will be seeing the movie? Make sure and get your shirt made ASAP! 🙂
Happy Crafting!
