Here is how I made this awesome storage bin.
It all started with this drawer box. I have a bunch of these drawer boxes with out the fronts or slides in my garage. I found a size that would fit under my sons bed and painted it this beautiful shade of blue (French Blue) using the Folk Art Paint.
Once it was dry, it was stencil time!
I cut out the stencils I wanted to use, making it easier for positioning. And used some cute tape to hold it in place as I painted. I dabbed the spouncers in the green (Yellow Citron) and white (White Wicker) paints, making sure there was not too much on there, I started dabbing over the stencil.
While my arrows were drying, I cut out my letters to spell TRUCKS.
I laid them out, making sure they were lined up how I wanted them and taped them together to transfer them to the front of my drawer. Added more tape to hold them in place and stenciled them in red.
I needed to add some finishing touches to make it easier for my son to use.
I first added 4 swivel casters onto the bottom. I wanted it to slide easily under the bed.
I used the smallest casters I could find and the shortest screws since the wood isn’t too thick.
I also wanted to add some drawer pulls to the existing holes.
My son picked out some wooden drawer pulls and I painted them using the same Folk Art paint I used for stenciling. Since I didn’t have to drill any holes, these were a cinch to install to the front of our rolling storage box.
Look how fun and bright this storage box looks with all the trucks lined up!
It slides easily in and out from under my sons bed, and he can do it all by himself.
So far this box has held trucks, cars, trains, books, blankets, stuffed animals, puzzles and my 4 year old! It not only rolls under the bed, but down the hall and all around the family room.
I think he likes the storage box just as much as the toys that are supposed to go in it.
It is 4 year old kid approved!!
I guess I need to make some more. Maybe little miss needs one for her toys too!
