It seems that no matter your location, the weather right now is really weird. It is either really cold or where I am, really warm. Either way, the kids are probably bored (which is most of the time, no matter what it’s like outside). They are ready for an activity and more than likely it has to take place inside. My kids and I had some indoor fun making some #ColorfulCreations using some Crayola Crayons, Crayola Washable Paints, and Crayola Sidewalk Chalk.
I was so excited that #CollectiveBias sent me over to Walmart to pick up some awesome Crayola products. I am a huge fan of their products, especially the washable products. They have saved a wall or too at our house. 🙂
I found the products in two different locations. I found them with the other art supplies in the colored pencil and paints aisle. But I also found a free standing station in the large aisle by all the office supplies. They weren’t too hard to find and in two separate locations, it made it easier to find just what I was looking for.
Once we had all our supplies, the kids and I got started on some fun projects that kept us inside. The first thing we did was open up the box of Crayons. I think my son gasped aloud when I opened that box of 96 Crayons! They had never seen that many colors before! Ha!
My daughter decided she needed all the pink ones and immediately began pulling all of the pink colors out of the box.
And you can see, my son had the same idea with the blue ones. He is really into drawing faces and I was excited to see what he would be coming up with.
On on of the blank walls in our family room, we made an art gallery. We hung up all the pictures that we made so we could display our work. Plus the kids love seeing their creations on the walls in our home. Most of the time those creations are actually on paper. 🙂 I must say that I love the lower left picture my son made. It is of a giraffe family and I think it is the cutest!
Once we hung our drawings, the kids wanted to break out the paints. Do you see a recurring theme with my daughter?!?! One track mind. (Pink, pink, pink.) We painted several paintings and set them aside to dry.
Once all the painting was done, we saw some of the paint had dried on the counter top. I got a damp paper towel for my son and he was able to wipe up the paint with no problem. I love washable paint!
Once the paintings were dry, I allowed my son to cut up the drawings into strips and shapes. Remember scissors are sharp and can be dangerous. Since my son is 5 he was allowed to do this part of the activity. I gave him safety scissors and watched him closely so he wouldn’t hurt himself.
Once he cut out all his shapes, we made ribbons or awards for our drawings in the art gallery. I think this might have been his favorite part. He loves to glue and tape and has continued making awards for all sorts of things around the house.
We had our award ceremony and the kids put a ribbon on each of our drawings. If my kids were older and could read, I probably would’ve come up with a category for each award. I think kids would have fun coming up with some creative categories: most colorful, best animal, most festive, best use of color pink, etc.
Another fun activity that we did inside was to make an indoor hopscotch game. I took a roll of brown paper and rolled it out on our wood floor. This would work in a long hallway or even in the middle of the kitchen floor. Anywhere that you have a hard surface. We taped down the edges really well. Then, using the washable sidewalk chalk, I drew the hopscotch and let the kids play. My son was pretty good at it and was able to hop on one foot when he was supposed to. My daughter just kind of hopped down the entire thing, but they both had a great time.
Once they were done playing hopscotch, they got out more chalk and colored on the brown paper. Clean up was a breeze. I just rolled up the paper and threw it in the trash. There were a few places on the wood floor that had some chalk dust that we wiped up with a wet paper towel.
All of these activities were so much fun for the kids, but for me too. I was able to let them create and have fun and not worry about the mess that was being made, because I knew I could clean it up really easy. They are excited to make more pictures to add to our gallery, make new awards and play more hopscotch.
