Are you guys ready for Christmas?  I’m in total Christmas mode over here as far as decorating goes.  Each year the day after Thanksgiving is reserved for decorating for Christmas.  I was excited to get out all our decorations and see where our things would go in our new house.  There has been a lot of rearranging, but it has been fun.  We have a lot of tall ceilings and big trees at our house and I was needing something that would make a statement and so I wanted to add some simple Christmas decorations that would amp things up.  I remembered I had these paper lanterns and I decided to use them in my Christmas decor.  These paper lantern Christmas ornaments took only minutes to put together, but I love the effect they have. These giant Christmas ornaments are so simple to make using paper lanterns and some gold scrapbook paper. - lizoncall.com

Let me show you just how easy these are to put together.  The supplies you will need for these paper lantern Christmas ornaments are:

Paper lanterns, strips of gold scrapbook paper, gold ribbon, clear tape, and bakers twine. These giant Christmas ornaments are so simple to make using paper lanterns and some gold scrapbook paper. - lizoncall.com

I cut my gold scrapbook paper into 1.5 inch and 2 inch strips.  You can see the difference between the two sizes in the pictures and decide which size you like better.  You will need approximately 1 and a half strips for each paper lantern to create the top.  These giant Christmas ornaments are so simple to make using paper lanterns and some gold scrapbook paper. - lizoncall.com

Once your paper lantern is opened and secured by it’s inside, create the “bulb” top by making a circle of gold scrapbook paper.  I used clear tape make my circle.  I made them just a little bit bigger than the opening at the top of the paper lantern.  I didn’t use anything to attach it to the paper lantern, I found a spot that it could just rest on top.  They do move around a little bit, so you could add some clear tape to the inside to attach it to the lantern if you prefer.  I then attached the bakers twine to the hanger inside the lantern so I could hang them up.These giant Christmas ornaments are so simple to make using paper lanterns and some gold scrapbook paper. - lizoncall.com

I thought they needed a little something extra, so I added a little gold bow to look like it was on the top of the “bulb” part of the Christmas ornament.  I just tucked the tails of the bow inside the lantern. These giant Christmas ornaments are so simple to make using paper lanterns and some gold scrapbook paper. - lizoncall.com

Then they were ready to hang.  They looked great in our tree.  I loved how bright and colorful they are!

You can see the slight difference in the top of the red ornament and the green ornament.  I used 1.5 inch strips for the red top and 2 inch strips for the others.  I think the little gold bow is so subtle but makes a huge difference. These giant Christmas ornaments are so simple to make using paper lanterns and some gold scrapbook paper. - lizoncall.com

These are so simple and I just love how they turned out. You could use all the same size paper lanterns, but it would be fun to use all different sizes too.

Thanks Sarah! It rained the day after I hung them in our trees so I quickly took them down and now they are hanging over our dining room table! They are so fun!
