Do you set goals for yourself at the beginning of each year? This year one of my goals was to practice and work on my hand lettering. Over the last 2 years I have really grown to love this hobby. I find it is a perfect me time activity. And I’ve come a long way in 2 years. I’ve really been focusing on it this last year and have found that it is all about practice. I write the same words, phrases, letters over and over again trying different versions to see what I like and what is easiest for me. I’ve become really good at lettering my kids’ names. 🙂
If you are like me and trying to practice your hand lettering this year, practice sheets are a good place to start. I love including hand lettering on postcards, thank you notes, gift tags, envelopes and even on my Christmas cards. Since I’ve been practicing, I thought I’d share some of my Christmas hand lettering practice sheets with you so that you too can share your talents of hand lettering with your family and friends.
For these practice sheets I used 2 different types of pens. I used my favorite Tombow Dual Brush pens for the larger scale lettering. These can be used with any brush pen or marker. Remember that with brush lettering, give a little pressure to the pen to create those thick downstrokes and let up on the pressure of the pen to get those thin upstrokes.
The smaller scale practice sheets is intended to be used with Tombow fudenosuke pens. You could even use the Tombow twin tone markers and just thicken the downstrokes once you’ve written your word.
When I print out my practice sheets, I use this super smooth HP printer paper if I’m going to practice directly on the practice sheet. Or if I want to use it over and over, I buy this Canson marker paper to place on top of the practice sheet and start lettering.
You can download the Christmas hand lettering practice sheets using the link below. It will come with 2 pages for the 2 different sizes of pens.
