You probably all know by now that I love Disney! This month some blogging friends and I are celebrating a month of Disney. Each day one of us is sharing a new Disney project. Today I decided to share with you this DIY Minnie Mouse headband. My sister in law made one for my daughter a few years ago and I recreated it and made another one for my baby girl. Once you see this Minnie Mouse headband tutorial you’ll want to make one, or two. 😉
To make the cute minnie mouse all you need is a black t-shirt. If you have an old black t-shirt lying around, this is the perfect excuse to get it out of your closet and put it to good use. I used an adult medium to large t-shirt. Start off by cutting the bottom hem off of the shirt.
Then cut (2) 2 inch wide strips off the bottom of the shirt (they will be basically 2 big loops). Then cut the strip along the width so you will have 2 long strips. What I like about the t-shirt jersey fabric is that it rolls really easy. Start by rolling/or twisting the strips of fabric length wise.
As you roll/twist the fabric, start at the end and start rolling it along the rest of the strip. Use dots of hot glue to keep it together as you roll/twist the fabric. Keep rolling until you get the size you want. I made my Minnie head about 2.5 inches wide. Then using the other fabric strip make the minnie ears. You want to make the ears about the same size, I made them about 1.5 inches.
Then use hot glue and glue the ears onto the head. Use the sides that show the least amount of hot glue showing as the front of your head and ears. Once they are glued together, glue them down to a piece of black felt.
Trim the extra felt off around the minnie head and ears.
Then find some cute red ribbon with white polka dots and tie a cute bow.
Then glue your bow onto your minnie mouse where you like. I glued mine in the middle. My sister in law added some fun white feathers to her minnie mouse, glueing it between the felt and the fabric. Then she added her bow to just under one of the ears.
I found a metal headband that had pink ribbon on it and decided to cover it with black ribbon with white polka dots.
Then I glued Minnie Mouse onto the headband and added a piece of felt to the back to reinforce it. We covered a clip with some ribbon and glued the clip to the other Minnie Mouse (this would be good for bigger girls).
You can decide where you want your Minnie Mouse on the headband.
It’s cute as both a headband and a clip. And I’m not gonna lie, I’ve worn the headband a time or two! 🙂
Don’t forget to check out all the Disney fun my friends are sharing this month and find a project that you just have to make!
You know I’ve got more Disney projects and tutorials right here too.
Happy Crafting!
