Create a fun and festive Halloween play date for your kids in hosting an easy pumpkin decorating party.
It wasn’t until I became a parent that I really got into Halloween. Yes I would dress up when I was a kid, but it was never anything scary. I was usually a cheerleader, a ballerina, or some sort of non scary performer. I’ve never been a fan of getting really dressed up and as a teenager I was glad I was too old for that. It just never was my favorite holiday. I’m not a fan of being scared and sometimes Halloween can be scary. Even having to open the door to pass out candy, I would always be afraid that someone was going to scare me. (Like a clown, yikes!)
But now that I have kids of my own, I see how much they like Halloween. I’m still not into the spooky side of Halloween. I usually keep our Halloween decor pretty cute and non scary. Which I think the kids appreciate. They don’t really like scary either. But I love all the fun ideas associated with Halloween. Like pumpkin carving, candy and parties.
I thought it would be fun to bring all those things together and do something fun for the kids. That is how this pumpkin decorating party came about. Of course pumpkin carving and kids don’t really mix, but decorating fake pumpkins is the perfect solution.
Pumpkin Decorating Party
For our pumpkin decorating party set up I got most of the decor and supplies from Oriental Trading. Have you checked out their Halloween headquarters? They have tons of Halloween decor, party supplies and even Halloween costumes.
For our party I bought some small plastic pumpkins for the kids to decorate. (You could always have everyone bring their own pumpkin to decorate too.) I added all the pumpkin face decorating packages to a small basket so the kids could choose a face and decorate their pumpkins. I love how easy these kits were to use. Just peel and stick. All of my kids, ages 3-8 loved making their pumpkins.
And what would a party be with out treats. I added some candy corn corn to some cute popcorn boxes so the kids could have a snack. You’re party food doesn’t have to be too hard or over the top for a party like this. Just a simple snack for the kids as they decorate their pumpkins.
There are 6 different faces to choose from, so not everyone will be the same. Which makes it fun for everyone!
And you can’t have a Halloween party with out some sort of candy. I doubled my centerpieces as a party favor. These lollipop and gum ball centerpieces brought fun and height to our party table. And once the party was over, the kids could each take some home. I love all the Halloween colors going on in this display.
This pumpkin decorating party was so fun to put together. Plus it was a really simple party to put together. And anytime I can put a smile on my kids faces, I call it a good day.
And it wasn’t a scary party, which makes it more fun for mom too. 🙂
So tell me what are some of your favorite things about Halloween?
Happy Partying!

Thanks Kristie! I think you’re cool if you still dress up. It’s just not my thing. 🙂
