These black cat cupcakes are a fun, cute and delicious addition to any Halloween party!
You may have seen these cute cupcakes around already. I shared them over at Eighteen 25 as part of their Spooktacular September series. I love making fun treats for my kids, family and friends. Especially around the holidays. One of the things I do when I am making anything in the kitchen, is find shortcuts that I can take to make it easier on me, but will still taste good.
That’s where these black cat cupcakes start.
With a short cut. A chocolate boxed cake mix. Yup. I’m easy like that. I just used my favorite chocolate cake mix and baked up a batch of cupcakes in black cupcake wrappers. Once they were cooled I whipped up my favorite better than buttercream chocolate frosting. Although I use boxed cake mixes when I make cakes and cupcakes, the frosting is where I take an anti-shortcut stand. 🙂 I always make my own frosting.
I used an ice cream scoop and placed a scoop of frosting on the cooled cupcake. Then I added my black jimmy sprinkles (I bought these at the cake decorating store, but you could use any black sprinkles you can find) to a bowl and dipped the top frosting part of my cupcake into the bowl of sprinkles and rolled it around until it was covered. Be careful not to let your frosting fall off the cupcake. Once the frosting is covered, I added a candy corn for the nose, black licorice rope for whiskers and tail, some candy eyes and the ears.
For the ears I created printable ears that I cut out and glued to toothpicks and stuck into the tops of the cupcakes. You can download the black cat ears printable using the link below.
My kids came home from school and were super amused at these black cat cupcakes. My son is the one that added the licorice tails (not shown in the pictures, but a cute addition).
They will be a perfect addition to your Halloween celebrations. Along with these pumpkin cupcakes.
And then our other favorite Halloween treat, these candy corn pretzels.
Tell me, what are some of your favorite Halloween treats?
Happy Baking!
