Using a few items from the store and a few items I made at home, I created this rustic charm Christmas mantel for my family room.
This year it seems all of my Christmas decor has been full of black and white buffalo check. And that is true if you are looking at my front porch at the buffalo check dee silhouette on my front door. But inside I’m telling another story. In fact I think everyone has a different feel. I have a fancy red and white striped candy tree in my living room that you see when you first walk into my house. I love my candy striped tree. I’ve been adding red and white ornaments to it for the last couple years. This year we let the kids have their own tree and decorate it with all the ornaments they have made over the years. That tree is in our family room next to our fireplace and is also full of rusty jingle bells and metal stars. I call it my rustic tree. So this rustic Christmas mantel is perfect in the family room.
I found this felt left and berry wreath and garland at Target and snatched them up. I knew they would be perfect on my mantel. I made this wreath frame to actually make a Christmas sign. But before I painted on Merry Christmas, I hung up this wreath inside it and fell in LOVE with it as a wreath holder!! It’s just perfect.
I found this little fabric covered deer with the scarf at Target as well. They had a couple different designs, but I thought this would go with my decor the best. I made a star out of twigs from my yard for the tree on my porch and I loved it, so I decided to make a big one for my mantel. I even strung some tiny lights on the tree to light it up at night.
I loved the big star so much, I decided to make another little star for the other side of the Christmas mantel. I couldn’t pass up the red truck with the wreath and Christmas tree that I spotted in Target. I knew I needed to own it. The twine covered trees were in the dollar section at Target. I had my husband cut a small log into slices and I used those as the base of the trees to lift them up.
It all came together so well! The Merry Christmas sign is also from Target (shocker). I loved the Christmas sweater look of it. It’s also another reason that I didn’t finish my sign that became my wreath holder. It was going to say Merry Christmas.
What kind of decor are you using this year? Do you have a theme? Or just using what you love?
Changing up my mantel for the seasons is so fun. Last year I was able to decorate an actual mantel for the first time. It was so fun! Here is last year’s Christmas mantel.
Christmas is just 2 weeks away!!
Happy Decorating!

How do you hang your garland and banner from your mantel? What do you use to hold them in place?

I use command strips to hang my garland and banner. I use the clear ones. They hold pretty well. And I like that you can’t see them! 🙂
