Cricut Iron on and cut files are one of my favorite combos!  I usually use them to make all kinds of t-shirts, but today I wanted to try making something a little different.  How cute would this combo be on a baseball cap?  I loved the idea and got to work.

How to Curve Text in Cricut Design Space

I don’t know if you’ve had the chance to try the curve tool in Cricut Design Space, but it helped make this project even easier.  Instead of having to place all the individual letters on a curve myself, the curve tool made that process so much easier.

To get started, open up design space to a new project.  Click on the text tool on the left hand side and type your word or phrase.  Change the font to the one you want for your final design.  I used Brush Script for this project.  Brush Script is one the fonts available with the Cricut Access subscription.

Once you have your font selected and your word/phrase typed, click on the curve tool on the top menu bar.  Move the slider to the left or right until you get the curve you like.

To cut your word as one single word instead of individual letters, right click on the selected text and then ungroup the letters.

That will put each letter in it’s own layer and will allow you to move the letters along that curved path so that they touch, to look more like a script.  When the letters are where you want, select all the layers and click the weld button on the bottom of the layers panel.

The text will become one layer and be ready to cut.  Size the design to fit your project, and click make it.  If using iron on vinyl, make sure to mirror the image before cutting.

DIY Customized Hat

To make this DIY Customized Hat you will need:

Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2

Iron on Vinyl

Cricut Access subscription

EasyPress Mat

Baseball Hat

Cricut Cutting Mat

Weeding Tools

Boss Babe Cut File

Open the boss babe cut file in Cricut Design Space.  Click make it and make sure to mirror the image.  Place your iron on vinyl shiny side or face down on your cutting mat.  Load your mat into the cutting machine, choose iron on as your cutting material and cut your design.  I chose rose gold foil iron on for this project.

Remove or weed the vinyl from the design that is not needed.  Leaving the design on the plastic protective sheet.  I found my black and white checkered hat at Walmart.

I used the new Cricut EasyPress 2 for this project.  It is the perfect size for small projects like this DIY Customized Hat, baby items, sewing projects and more.  It’s small size fits perfectly inside the seams of a baby onesie.  The Cricut EasyPress 2 can heat up to 400 degrees and in under 60 seconds you’ll get professional iron on success.  The ceramic coated heat plate guarantees even heating over the entire surface.  The EasyPress 2 comes in 3 different sizes (6×7, 9×9, 10×12) to fit any project and it comes in my favorite color…RED!!

Cricut also has a strong bond guarantee.  Many of their iron on products now come with this strong bond guarantee. If you see that guarantee and use the product as directed, you’ll love the results.  And if not, they will replace it for free.  Gotta love that!

I flattened out the back side of the hat as best as I could to make a flat surface for my design.  Then I placed the curved foil iron on design on the back of the hat.  I let the sticky back of the plastic cover keep it in place.

The Cricut EasyPress 2 fit perfectly on the design and hat.  For foil iron on I did 295 degrees for 30 seconds.  I then flipped it over and pressed it for another 15-30 seconds.

Foil iron on is a cold peel, which means it needs to cool completely before removing the plastic cover sheet.

Doesn’t this rose gold foil just pop!  I think it looks just fab on the black and white checkered hat.

I can’t wait to put this EasyPress 2 back to work and create some more fun projects with it!

Which of the 3 sizes of the Cricut EasyPress 2 would you choose to get first?  There are so many possibilities with eacy one.

Happy Crafting!
