I was provided the opportunity to visit the Arizona Science Center and Lost Egypt exhibit through a campaign with Blended Extended. All opinions are my own.

A few weeks ago the kids and I were able to get a sneak peek at the new exhibit that opened up at the AZ Science Center on May 31st.  The Lost Egypt exhibit is an interactive exhibit that shows how archeologists use modern science to learn about ancient Egyptian civilization.  The exhibit is broken into 4 different parts.

Orientation Entrance: This area features a street scene that takes you to modern Egypt where you can see what scientists are working on today.  One of the first things my kids noticed as we entered the exhibit, was Sarah the Camel.  They loved taking a turn to “ride” on Sarah’s back.

Then next area of the exhibit is the field site.  The kids were able to explore the tools and techniques of how the Egyptians built the pyramids.  They were able to try their hand at building a pyramid.  They were more tower builders than pyramid builders. 🙂

They loved being in control of the “wind” machine and watching how wind affected the sands and how they would blow around the pyramids.

The next section of the exhibit is the ancient Egyptian culture.  This is the area that we were able to see a human mummy!  This mummy is named Annie.  She is called Annie because she is an anonymous female.  It was really interesting to see a human mummy up close.

The detail and care that was taken to preserve this body for the afterlife was just amazing.  The kids were a little scared of this “tomb” area, but I thought it was really interesting. How amazing is the detail on that mask?

My son loved trying to piece together some of the broken pottery that was there in this area of the exhibit.

The last section of the exhibit is the laboratory.  My kids and I didn’t get into this section of the exhibit much.  In this area, visitors can discover animal mummies and x-rays and CT scans of both human and animal remains.

We loved all the interactive features in this exhibit.  Each of my kids had a favorite part.  My daughter liked riding the camel and my son liked piecing together the pottery.  When my son heard that we were going to the Lost Egypt exhibit, he wanted to show me his Egyptian dance moves!  Ha ha!

Even baby sister loved that camel!  She was ready to get out of the stroller and see just how friendly Sarah would be.

The Lost Egypt exhibit will be at the AZ Science Center from May 31st through September 1, 2014.

But right now, you could win 1 of 3 Family Passes up for grabs.  The family pass includes entrance to the AZ Science Center and tickets to the Lost Egypt exhibit for a family of 4.

The AZ Science Center is a fun place to entertain kids and families.  There is so much to do there and the Lost Egypt exhibit just adds to the fun!  It’s the perfect place to take the kids this summer.

Happy Touring!
