Since it is Easter weekend, we have been busy with lots of fun spring activities and fun.  We’ve had lots of time with family and friends and we’ve loved every minute!  The kids have sure enjoyed seeing their out of town cousins.  Since it has been a busy week, by the time the weekend was here, I was so behind.  We knew my sister in law was going to be coming in town for the weekend with her family and I wanted to do something fun with them but since I have been busy this week, I knew I wanted to keep it low key.

I headed over to Smart & Final to see what I could buy to throw together a quick (but fun) family night together.  I picked up a couple of 2 packs of DiGiorno Pizzas rising crust and a 5 pound tub of Nestle Chocolate Chip cookie dough.  I thought it would be fun for the kids to make a Nestle cookie cup nest!

What I love about Smart & Final is that they have a great selection of products in bulk sizes.  And you don’t have to have a membership to shop there.

I found the cookie dough in the refrigerated section of the store, where you could buy refrigerated biscuits.Last minute family get together made easy with Nestle #choosesmart #cbias

I found the DiGiorno pizza in the frozen food section.  Now I don’t just shop Smart & Final in the cold foods aisles, or baking aisles, although they do have a great selection of products.  I also like that they carry fresh produce and meats. Last minute family get together made easy with Nestle #choosesmart #cbias

For our low key family get together I baked up a couple pizzas and threw together a salad.  When kids are involved, you can’t go wrong with pizza!

After dinner we decided to have a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt.  My son loved the tiny glow sticks we put in the eggs so they could be found.

After our Easter egg hunt we sat down and made our Nestle cookie cup nest treats.  They were so easy to make, and looked too cute to eat when they were done.

To make the Nestle cookie cup nest recipe you start out with the chocolate chip cookie dough and a mini cupcake pan.  Spray the pan with not stick cooking spray and scoop 1 inch balls into each cup.  Then using your fingers press out the cookie dough to form a cup shape.  Bake the cookies at 350 degrees for 9 -12 minutes.

While the cookies are baking making your green grass for your nest.  Simply place sweetened flaked coconut in a ziploc bag with a couple drops of green food coloring.  Shake the bag and roll the coconut around until it is all covered and green.

Let the cookie cups cool completely before trying to remove them from the pan.  Try to remove them gently by twisting them.  If they give you a hard time (like most of mine did), I removed the top edge that baked over the side of the cup and then I was able to get the cookie cups out of the pan.

Simply fill the center with a little bit of your favorite frosting/icing, sprinkle on the green coconut and add some jelly beans for the eggs.

Such a fun springy treat the whole family loved!

I love the cookie nests – what a great idea to add food coloring to coconut. #client

These cookie nests look sooo yummy. I might have to give them a try, minus the coconut due to allergies. Thank you for the idea, and happy Easter!!!
