Spider Web Wreath

Happy Thursday friends!  Today I am so excited to share with you my new Halloween wreath!  Some of you may remember that last year I made Mr. Spider and his Web for my front door.  So I’m pretty shocked at myself for making another Spider wreath for my door again this year.  I just had this idea in my head and needed to see it through.  And I’m so glad I did!  I just love this Spider Web Wreath!
This really is a simple project to make, it just takes a little bit of time.  It all started with a pair of ladies pantyhose.  You know the kind with the fun designs?  Well I found just the pair at Walmart that would make for a perfect spider web look.
I also knew I wanted a white wreath form so you could see the black “web”.  I also found my wreath form at Walmart, but you could buy these at any craft supply store.  I brought it home and before I could get to crafting, my kids broke it for me!  And just FYI, hot glue does NOT hold together a styrofoam wreath form! (At least I couldn’t get it to work.) And I didn’t have any black or white duck tape.
But remember, I was using panty hose.

So I cut off one of the legs of the pantyhose and just slipped it through the open part of my wreath and slide it onto my form.  I think the kids actually made the part of getting the “web” onto the wreath easier by breaking it for me!  Thanks kids!
I slide the pantyhose on and pulled it all the way around to meet the starting end.  It will look like this.  Now remember, I was having a hard time with the hot glue and trying to hot glue pantyhose was not going to work.
So I used sewing pins.  I was able to just loop the pantyhose around the straight pins.  I also didn’t like the the pantyhose weren’t tight on the wreath form.
So, using more straight pins, I pulled the pantyhose tight against the form and looped the extra around them. I did small sections that looked like this.
Here is what the back of the wreath looks like after all the nipping and tucking.
Here is the front all finished.  I like this much better.  Plus you can pull it to make sure the design of the pantyhose is where you want it on the wreath.
Then I tied on my spider.  I made a pom pom spider out of black yarn.  (I will have a full tutorial on him later this week.  So come on back.)  I tied it close to the end of the pantyhose, a little off center of the wreath.  I had a big crack in the middle of my wreath so I couldn’t really put it there! 🙂  You can also use any spider you may already have, or I’ve seen them for cheap at Walmart and Target.
To hold my wreath together, I used a wide ribbon and more straight pins.  It’s not the sturdiest of fixes, but it will do the job.
Then I tied some cute black ribbon on the wreath to hang it on my door.  Perfect!  And the spider is perfect just a little off center.
And you can’t see my straight pins and crack in my wreath either!
I think by breaking my wreath form before I got started, the kids actually helped this project come along!  I guess they won’t be in too much trouble after all! 😉
We love our Spider Web Wreath.  The kids try and get the spider to fall off every time they open and close the door.  Well hopefully that spider and wreath won’t be going anywhere!
Happy Crafting!
