Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to make up some chocolate covered strawberries for your loved ones.Tips for making chocolate covered strawberries plus free printable gift tags for gifting to your loved ones.

I love chocolate covered strawberries.  They are such a fun and special treat.  Especially for Valentine’s Day.  How much would your special someone love you for making them some yummy chocolate covered strawberries?!?!

I’ve made them a few times and I’ve learned a few tricks to help make the process easier and the strawberries turn out perfect.  My first tip is to us strawberries that are clean and dry.  Make sure once you wash your berries you let them air dry or pat them with a paper towel until they are completely dry.  I pick out the biggest and best looking strawberries from the container.  Sometimes you can find really pretty ones with long stems.  Those would be really nice, if you can find them and they don’t cost a fortune.

You can use any chocolate you have that will melt well.  I prefer melting chocolate over chocolate chips because they set up faster.  But that is because I’m always in a hurry. 🙂  To make 6 strawberries you need about 6 oz of chocolate.  I melted my chocolate in a glass bowl in the microwave for about a minute.  Stir until it’s smooth.  Microwave for an additional 30 seconds if needed.

I find it’s easier to cover the strawberries if you tip the bowl on it’s side and then roll the strawberry in the melted chocolate to completely cover the outside.  Gently shake off the extra chocolate and place the berries onto a tray with a piece of parchment paper.  Dip all the berries in the chocolate and if you need to let the chocolate set up, stick the tray in the fridge.

To decorate the tops you could add some fun sprinkles to the top before the chocolate sets up.  But I added some white candy melts to a piping bag and melted them in the microwave for less than a minute.  Cut a small tip off the end of the bag and gently squeeze the bag as you go back and forth over the strawberries.

They may not be 100% perfect, but they turned out really lovely.  And they tasted even better!

I had this cute red pastry box in my craft stash so I added some cupcake wrappers to the inside and filled the wrappers with the chocolate covered strawberries to make a simple and delicious Valentine’s Day gift.

I created a video for you to see the whole process if you’ve got 1 1/2 minutes to spare.  You can see just how easy they are to make.
