I am so excited about today’s project! I actually first created this design a year ago and made Christmas gifts for my mom and mother in law for Christmas. But it was a rushed project that I thought would be perfect to use for Mother’s Day.
And don’t rush off after you see the tutorial, make sure to check out all the other Mother’s Day craft projects my friends are sharing.
For this project you will need:

Mother’s Day Cut File
After a bit more time on the design, cleaning it up and creating some alternate words for Grandma and Mom as part of the cut file, it’s ready for Mother’s Day crafting. There are just so many versions of mom and grandma that it was hard to get them all.
Not only did I do a couple variations ready to go, I am including every letter of the alphabet as different layers in the SVG so you can create the exact name your family uses. This really helps create a perfect, personalized and fun gift for mom.
Once you upload the free SVG file into Cricut Design Space, ungroup the layers in the top of the right side layers panel. Click the little eye icon to turn off the layers you are not using.
Move the word for mom/grandma that you want to use, or use the individual letters to create your own name, to complete the design. Once you have the name where you want, select all and resize to fit your project.
If cutting iron-on vinyl for your project, make sure to click the mirror image button on the left side of the mat image page, right under the mat size selection. Then click make it. Select your machine and your cutting material.
Make sure and place your iron-on vinyl shiny side down on the cutting mat. Select iron-on as the cutting material, load the mat into the machine and press the go button.

Once the vinyl is cut, weed the unwanted vinyl from the design with the weeding tool. Leave the design on the protective plastic sheet. Remember the design is the mirror image.
Using a true control knife, cut along the stapled edge of the backside of the canvas. Remove the canvas so it will lay flat to apply your design.
Make sure to check out the EasyPress Interactive Quick Reference Guide to find out the settings you’ll need to iron the vinyl to the canvas.
Place the canvas down on top of the EasyPress mat and place your design onto the canvas where it will be centered in the frame of the canvas. Once the EasyPress 2 reaches the correct temperature, place the EasyPress onto the project and use gentle pressure while the EasyPress counts down the time. Make sure the iron on vinyl is always covered with a protective sheet.
Trim the canvas to fit onto the back side of the canvas frame, and use a stapler or glue gun to attach the canvas to the frame.
I love how it turned out! And can’t wait to display it in my office! Is it bad that I made this for myself? 🙂

This design will look cute on so many other things! It looks cute on a shirt and I’ve even bought a clear phone case and used some permanent vinyl to cut it out and put it on the back for my mom.
A bunch of my favorite Cricut crafters are sharing even more Mother’s Day projects that you could make with your Cricut machine.

Love your reverse canvas. I’ve been meaning to make one and have yet to actually make it. Thanks for inspiring me to create my own canvas.
