Watch the new Star Wars Force Awakens movie in style with this DIY Star Wars Storm Trooper T-shirt.
Ok Star Wars fans!! Who has already seen the Force Awakens? It just opened today, but I know so many people that were planning on seeing it last night. I’m not a super huge Star Wars person, but I have seen the movies and I think they are good. So I’m looking forward to seeing the new movie soon. To be Star Wars movie ready, I got together with some friends to put together some awesome Star Wars project ideas.
My son is the perfect age for Star Wars, so I decided to make him a Storm Trooper t-shirt using iron on vinyl.
I created my storm trooper t-shirt design and cut it out of black iron on vinyl. If you haven’t used iron on (or heat transfer) vinyl before, here is a quick tutorial. Once you have your design, you will need to reverse the image so it cuts it backwards. Use the settings on your cutting machine for cutting iron on vinyl. Once the design was cut, I removed all the excess vinyl that I didn’t need, so all I had left was the design.
The vinyl is on a plastic sheet, you can kind of see the shiny plastic sheet in the picture below. Leave your design on the plastic for ironing.
Lay the vinyl design down on your t-shirt so the plastic sheet is on the top and the design is the right way. Once you’ve got your design placed on your shirt where you like, use a hot iron with the steam turned off, and iron the design onto the t-shirt. Press firmly as you iron over the design. Peel the plastic up very slowly and if the vinyl sticks to the plastic, lay it back down and iron over it again.
Because there are some skinny lines in the design, make sure you peel the plastic up very slowly to ensure the vinyl is on the t-shirt. Or you might have a uh-oh moment and mess it up, like I did my first try. :/
And that’s it!! You have yourself one cool storm trooper t-shirt for your littlest and biggest Star Wars fan! You can download the Storm Trooper t-shirt design for personal use, using the link below.
