Do you ever make fun food with a theme? I love making fun treats for the kids to go along with things. They think it is super fun and I get to be fun mom, even if it is only for a day. One of my kid’s favorite snacks is popcorn. So we make a lot of flavored popcorn around here. It’s easy and so good. When we heard about the new movie coming out from Disney, I thought it’d be fun to make a flavored popcorn to get the kids (and me) excited before we saw the movie.
My son and I were able to go and see the new Disney Pixar movie Coco before it was released in theaters. My kids were really excited to go see it but I was a little skeptical with the Day of the Dead being the theme of the movie. But I have to say, I really loved it! I thought it might be scary for kids, and it totally wasn’t. The movie is about family and how important they are in our lives. Both those living and those who have passed. And I learned what the Day of the Dead is really all about.
My son is really anxious to find out about our ancestors thanks to this movie. And he kept repeating how important it is to obey our elders. Haha! I’ll have to use that to my advantage. 🙂 It is a great movie for the entire family. We give it 2 thumbs up and I can’t wait to take the rest of the family.
This cookies and cream popcorn was super easy to make. It took less than 10 minutes to mix up. The part that took the longest was waiting for the vanilla coating to set up.
To make this Cookies and Cream Popcorn you’ll need:
1 bag microwave popcorn – popped
10 – 12 ounces vanilla almond bark
3 TBL cookies and cream crunch
8 chocolate cream sandwich cookies – chopped
Pour popped popcorn into a large bowl. Melt vanilla almond bark in microwave and melt per instructions on package. Pour melted vanilla almond bark over popcorn, add in cookies and cream crunch and chopped cookies. Mix everything together until popcorn is coated. Spread out onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and let bark set up. Break into pieces and serve.
The best treats are those that are ready to eat in under 30 minutes. 🙂 Maybe that’s just at my house. Once my kids smell the popcorn, I have about 5 minutes to get things together before they are in the kitchen looking for a snack because they smell the popcorn. My daughter totally loved the black and white popcorn, as she called it.
The holidays are all about good food and spending time with family. And most years, that involves spending time together at the latest movie, enjoying a fun treat together. Coco is definitely one of those movies to go see with your family, eating something good and creating memories.
Happy Cooking!
