Keep the fun of summer going with this float into summer ice cream float bar. The kids will love it! It’s what summer is all about.
As a kid, Grandpa wanted to make those gatherings extra fun and extra special for us and now we have those fun memories to reflect on.
Because of the great examples of my grandparents and my parents in creating fun and special memories for their family, I am always wanting to create special moments with my own little family, moments that they will be able to reflect on and remember as something fun mommy and daddy did. Summertime is one of my favorite times to create those special and fun moments, when there is no set routine and everyone is happy to be done with school.
Since it’s over 110 degrees here most summer days, our summer fun moments usually include water and or a cool treat. We are all fans of ice cream, soda and yummy drinks at our house. Ice cream floats are the perfect cool treat to keep the sweet summer vibes going. Because I like to make an ordinary thing extraordinary, I decided an ice cream float bar would be fun to do with the kids.
I tend to go over the top when I do a lot of things, but this float into summer ice cream float bar is really simple to recreate. I just used things that I already had around the house to put it together. Some brightly colored cups, straws and napkins to serve up the ice cream floats are a must. I always have those things on hand, I just pick them up when I see them on sale or in the dollar section. I found the long ice cream spoons at Target and couldn’t help but buy those. They are perfect for helping scoop up all that delicious ice cream in a float. This galvanized tray was the perfect vessel for storing all the necessities. You can see that I used some mason jars to serve our floats, so if you don’t have paper cups and don’t want to buy them, jars work great.
Since this is an ice cream float bar, we needed some options to add to our float. I printed a cute summery label for some flavored syrups I had in my cupboard. I set those out for the kids to add some flavor to their floats and create their own unique combination.
When it came down to float time, I stuck a few of the mason jars in the freezer so they were good and cold. My husband really wanted a frosty mug for his ice cream float. I like a lot of ice cream in my floats, so I always add two scoops of ice cream to my cup before I add any soda.
Now, I like to create special moments with my family, but I also like to keep things simple, so I buy my root beer. I don’t know about you, but when I think of a classic root beer float, I have to use A&W® Root Beer. It really is an American classic. My husband didn’t want to be as adventurous as the kids, so he went with a classic root beer float.
When it came to my daughter, she wanted to try something a little more adventurous. I had some Sunkist® soda and she wanted to use that in her float. I added some Archer Farms cherry ice cream to her cup and filled it with soda. Then she directed me on what flavors she wanted added to her float. I topped it off with some whipped cream and a cherry. I have to say, orange, pineapple and cherry are a great combination! Yum!
All the kids wanted to make sure they had a cherry with their float, no matter what flavor it ended up being. They kept saying they loved their ice cream float party. I loved that something that took maybe 20 minutes to put together, turned out to be such a fun experience for them. Plus, it was fun to spend a little time together as a family.
I was able to find all our float ingredients at Target. Even the mini cans of A&W® Root Beer! They were the perfect amount for an ice cream float.
