Last week was my kids spring break. Since the beginning of spring break, I feel like I’m still trying to catch up . We didn’t go any place for a vacation but we did do a couple fun things around town. The kids kept me busy for sure.
One of the things I thought would be fun to do is to make sugar cookies. Since Easter is coming up I found this carrot cookie cutter and we made carrot sugar cookies.
I used my favorite sugar cookie recipe. This recipe has never failed me. Usually when I make sugar cookies I decorate them with royal icing. This time however, I decided I wanted to try something new.
In January I went to a blog conference here in Phoenix called Bash. It was so much fun! It’s a conference geared toward party and event planners, but I learned a lot while I was there. They had a hands on class from the fabulous Jenny Keller of Jenny Cookies. She taught a cookie decorating class and shared with us her buttercream frosting recipe and tips for frosting.
I made up a batch of her buttercream frosting and tinted part of it orange and part of it green. I filled my pastry bags and fitted the orange frosting with a Wilton decorating tip #21 and the green frosting with a Wilton decorating tip #18. I found that when using buttercream, I like a little big larger size decorating tips. But that is my preference. I did half a batch one day and the other half the next day. I put my pastry bags into a ziploc baggie overnight so they wouldn’t dry out the frosting.
These carrot sugar cookies turned out so cute and were a hit with the kids. And our neighbors and friends that we shared them with.
We tied a couple up in cute packages and attached Easter gift tags to deliver them.
I’m thinking I’m going to need to make up another batch to take to our Easter dinner!
I loved the carrots so much, I might need to try some other Easter shapes!
Are you planning a big Easter dinner? What delectable desserts will be on your table?
Happy Baking!
